Introduction to Japan

Japan, with China, Korea and Russia across the sea, consists of four largest islands (Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu) and more than 6800 small islands. For this reason, it is also known as "Thousand Island country." Japan’s population now exceeds 120 million, thus making itself the 10th most populous country worldwide. Tokyo and its surrounding counties compose the world’s largest megalopolis having a population of over 30 million. Moreover, Japan is the only Asian member state in the Eight Industrial Power and the world’s third-largest economy.
